TX NBA Teams Against The Spread

As we enter the home stretch of the 2021-2022 NBA season, we’ll take a look at the Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, and San Antonio Spurs’ records against the spread so far.

1. San Antonio Spurs

Despite being on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoff race, the San Antonio Spurs are the best Texas team against the spread thus far. At 52.9%, the Spurs are also among the league leaders against the spread. Coming in at number ten, the Spurs are 3-2 ATS in their last 5 games. Although they may not be the most fun watch at the moment, you can add a little excitement with a $20 wager here and there. As I write this, the Spurs are battling the Golden State Warriors, who are currently the fifth best team against the spread this season (58.3%). In the midst of a three game home stint, the Spurs have the Miami Heat and Houston Rockets coming to town this week. With a record of 10-16 at home, we’ll see if their ATS numbers continue to hold up.

2. Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks are currently sitting pretty with the fifth best record in the Western Conference. Just one game behind the Utah Jazz and a half game ahead of the Denver Nuggets, there’s potential for musical chairs when it comes to playoff seeding. Against the spread, the Mavericks are above average sitting at the thirteenth spot (52% ATS). The Mavericks have a 3-2 record against the spread in their last 5 games, much like San Antonio. With Luka playing himself into All NBA shape after the All Star Starter snub, best believe the Mavericks have something to prove going into the second half of the season. As the team’s identity starts to mirror coach Jason Kidd’s playing style of hard nose defense and crisp ball movement, the Mavericks are slowly becoming a formidable foe. The Mavericks have one of the best records in the NBA since the start of the New Year at 12-4. Buyer beware though. There’s still some talk of roster tinkering ahead of the trade deadline and this team only goes as far as a healthy Kristaps Porzingis takes them, in my opinion. The Mavericks have a six game home stand starting February 2nd, with a few easy wins sprinkled in (OKC Thunder and two games against the LA Clippers).

3. Houston Rockets

Rounding out the Texas NBA teams are the Houston Rockets. Just as it was in 2020-2021, the Rockets are having a less than stellar season. With a record of 21-28 (worst in the Western Conference), the Rockets are nowhere near playoff contention. At the twenty-third spot, Houston is 42.9% against the spread this season. With a record of 2-3 against the spread in their last 5 games, one would advise against placing any bets on the Rockets. After the exit of James Harden last year, the Rockets have pivoted from championship contenders to a more developmental status. The future is bright with young players such as Jalen Green, Kevin Porter Jr, and Alperen Sengun. If they can find a way to lure free agents to the H, this team could be fun to watch in a season or two. With two games coming up against the New Orleans Pelican in the next week, those are probably the best bets for the Houston Rockets for the foreseeable future. Houston plays San Antonio on the road Friday and given the Spurs home record (10-16), that could be a favorable bet depending on the spread.

Del’s bet of week: Mavericks vs Thunder: Mavericks -11.5

With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander out through the All Star break (sprained ankle), this game won’t be very competitive.
